Artist Statement
I’m Barb Hoffmann, a fine artist living in Selkirk, Manitoba. I started drawing as a very young child. I explored painting in high school in Winnipeg, and went on to graduate from the Comprehensive High School in Selkirk with a Commerial Art major. My interest in expoloring different mediums prompted self-curated learning. I’ve worked in charcoal, pencil, colored pencil, pastel, ink, oil, acrylic and watercolor. I enjoy caligraphy and have also painted with icing on cakes.
My detailed drawings and vibrant paintings shine with light, energy and emotion. Every pencil or brushstroke is intentional; every composition a window into my creative soul. I don’t just paint what I see; I paint what I feel from it. Art is a way to stay connected to the world, even when it’s hurting. I create art with the intention of reminding us of the joy and beauty that still exists.
l’ve been priviledged to teach the techniques I use to so many up and coming artists in both group and private classes, and to keep loving memories alive by creating custom artwork.
You can view some of my work available for purchase here in person at Selkirk’s Care Plus Clinic and Gordon Howard Centre. Some work is available to purchase exclusively through Gwen Fox Gallery in Selkirk and Traverse Bay Trading Post.
Thank you for being here, and seeing the world through my eyes.
